Sunday Morning Ride to Pekan Nanas and Durian Plantation

This Sunday morning, we head to Pekan Nanas for a photoshoot (I needed a banner pic of my bike for this blog) and then to a short off-road section to Zhong Cheng plantation. The weather was beautiful this morning – with heavy cloud cover and just a tad drizzle to keep all of us cool.

Lining up our bikes against the amazing backdrop of Pekan Nanas.
Beautiful biking roads!

Sunday Morning Ride to Kluang

It’s Sunday Morning Ride again! Today, we have 2 BMW R1200GS, 1 BMW R1200RS, 2 Honda CB400X, 1 Honda Super 4, and a Yamaha XJ6 Diversion.

We head to Kluang today. The group had actually just been there some 3 weeks ago. I was supposed to join them, but I was confined to bed rest as I had hurt my back back then.

The working railway station in Kluang.

Kluang is the first northbound train station from Johor Bahru, and the Malaysian authorities seem to be promoting it as somewhat of a tourist place. Continue reading “Sunday Morning Ride to Kluang”

Sunday Morning Ride to Mersing

This morning, we head to Mersing! 2 DRZ’s, 3 Honda’s and a Yamaha – we met at B-Point for a quick breakfast and headed off towards the eastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

We took the scenic coastal route towards Mersing.

As there was a recent road closure of the main road towards Mersing, Google Maps took us on some amazing winding roads to around the supposedly closed road – and Boy! It was some motorcycle paradise! Continue reading “Sunday Morning Ride to Mersing”

Sunday Morning Ride to Zhong Cheng Durian Farm

I’m a durian lover! And this Sunday Morning, we ride to Zhong Cheng Durian Plantation! At less than 50km from the Causeway checkpoint, the durian farm is pretty near Singapore actually. And when we arrived, there’s a short 750m or so of dirt track before we reach the plantation.

The scenery around the plantation.
The plantation owner greeted us and helped us select the durians.

Sunday Morning Ride – 19 bikes to Sedili

Last Sunday morning, I rode alone. This Sunday, with a large bunch of friends – some old, some new. I counted 19 bikes. We took a leisurely ride to Sedili jetty. And the highlight of our trip to Sedili?…. Eggs!

Sedili soft-boiled eggs served in a coffee cup!

Sunday Morning Ride to Mersing and Kluang

Today, I ride alone. Kinda reminds me of my 2-month solo ride – where it was just myself, my motorcycle, and my thoughts. It’s pretty therapeutic actually! Today, I head to Mersing – the gateway to the islands of Pulau Tioman and Pulau Aur.

Today’s route – JB-Mersing-Kluang-JB
Beautiful morning weather.

Group Ride to Gunung Pulai Waterfall

Five CB400X’es, an NC750X, a Xj6 Diversion and a Triumph Street Triple – I’ve officially joined the “big boys club” – a team of Class 2A and Class 2 bikes on a Sunday morning ride. Today, we head to Gunung Pulai waterfall.

En-route to Gunung Pulai Recreational Park, we past Pekan Nanas. The morning view was so breathtaking that we just had to stop for photos!

Lining up our bikes for a photoshoot was really hard work!
That’s me waiting for the rest to come over from the other side of the road.

My First CB400X Road Trip

With the recent acquisition of the tour-friendly Honda CB400X and the addition of luggage space, what better way to treat the 400X than to bring it along for a road trip!

So I took a couple of days off work, gathered a few friends, and off we went on a motorcycle trip to….

The route we took on the way up.
…Betong, Thailand! While it was my second trip there (first was on my Pulsar earlier this year), it was the first time visiting the Thai border town of one of the various overland entry points that Malaysia and Thailand share for the rest of the group.  Continue reading “My First CB400X Road Trip”

Sunday Morning Ride to Batu Layar

Work has taken its toll on me. I’ve lately been so consumed with it that I’ve not had the time to update this blog in a while. I went dirt bike riding at Tristan Park with a bunch of crazy fun poeple and I’ve yet had the time to compile the video and pics. Anyway, this morning, at the suggestion of Bernard, we headed to a hidden gem in Desaru area – Batu Layar.

The morning ride was a typical mix of Malaysian highway and B-roads. As with most morning with nice weather, we were greeted with flanks of scenic greenery and countryside back roads. But because we set off from B-Point a little bit later than usual today, the sun was hanging high and the surroundings looked unusually greener. Nice.

As I had the GPS coordinates keyed into my trusty iPhone 5s, I took point and led the group. Continue reading “Sunday Morning Ride to Batu Layar”

Sunday Morning Ride – Yet Another Off-road Adventure!

Someone challenged me to remember all the make and models of the bikes on today’s Sunday Morning Ride. Hmmm… Let me try…. We’ve got a Yamaha XJ6, 1 Honda Super 4, a MaxSym 400i, 1 Triumph Street Triple, a NC750X, 1 Honda CBR150R, 5 CB400X’s, and a Pulsar 200NS. Yup! A dozen bikes on this morning’s ride!

And today, we’re headed to a dirt track off the J173 enroute to Tg Sedili. Yup, 12 riders on street bikes attempting the off-road = helluva crazy fun! As it has been raining in Singapore over the past couple of days, we all prayed that the weather will hold up nicely on Sunday. Thankfully, we had one of the best weathers for riding – cool, cloudy and breezy, and not a hint of rain. Our prayers were answered!

I’m not gonna attempt to describe how much fun we had. Instead, I’m just gonna let the video do the talking…
