Amazing After-sales Service from Racing World Singapore

Quality service is hard to come by these days. While you may still occasionally come across some great pre-sales service – especially if you’ve displayed some buying signals and if the sales staff is eager to close the sale, great post-sales or after-sales service is rare. Very rare.

And I’m particularly pleased with Racing World Singapore and their service levels – especially their after-sales service.

Here’s what happened: Continue reading “Amazing After-sales Service from Racing World Singapore”

Sunday Morning Off-Road ride to Pontian – Round #2

For this Sunday Morning Ride, we returned to Pontian and re-attempted the off-road section. This time, we came prepared. Siu Hon and I brought along our tire inflators, and we were prepared to let out some air in our tires before taking on the off-road section. I also wanted to get some (easy) off-road experience with my Pulsar and her newly overhauled engine. And for this time around, I wanted to try riding like a real off-roader – standing on the bike.

The Pulsar, the MaxSym 400, the 400x (with pillion), and the XJ6 Diversion attempting the off-road.

This off-road section is an approximately 2-3km stretch with a mix of (really loose) gravel, dirt, and grass – some really TALL grass. It’s not exactly technically challenging as it’s a straight and level stretch and we weren’t expected to hop over logs or cross any water body. And although Siu Hon and I attempted it last month, we turned around halfway as it was raining, the ground was wet, and let’s just say that one of our bikes had something more than just tires hitting the ground. =S Continue reading “Sunday Morning Off-Road ride to Pontian – Round #2”

Sunday morning ride to Layang-layang

I love Sundays! Especially Sunday mornings! Mostly because I get to ride! =) This Sunday, we headed to Layang-layang. This week, we have a larger group of riders – Roy, Huiqin, Naim and Muhd Rahim were on their CB400X, Zhengfang was on her MaxSYM 400, Siu Hon with his XJ6, and then me and my 200cc Pulsar. For several weeks now, I’ve been overwhelmed by larger displacement motorcycles several times my engine size. Com’on! I need some 2B riders joining me soon! =P

As usual, we met at B-Point for a light roti breakfast and spent some time getting to know one another. Some of us were meeting each other for the first time.

We took the route via Kota Tinggi to Layang-layang.

At 0800h, we started our journey a little later than usual. And by the time we got to the back roads, the Continue reading “Sunday morning ride to Layang-layang”

sgBikerBoy Reviews Pinlock Ear Plugs

So, it’s been awhile since I got the pair of Pinlock ear plugs. Since then, I’ve taken it on short rides, on longer rides, through city rides and even on the Malaysian highway run at triple-digit speeds, and I thought I’d pen my thoughts on this set of ear plugs.

The Pinlock ear plugs packaging.

First, a little bit about Pinlock – the company. Pinlock is a pretty recognised brand in the motorcycle industry and are very well known for their excellent anti-fog visor inserts for motorcycle helmets. So when they came up with the ear plugs, I was pretty confident that it would be a quality product too.

I’ve always believed in hearing protection during motorcycle riding. It’s not that motorcycles are noisy – it’s the WIND NOISE when riding at highway speeds that can cause irreversible hearing damage. I used to ride with cheap, disposable 3M foam ear plugs and love how it makes the ride just feel more comfortable and pleasant. Continue reading “sgBikerBoy Reviews Pinlock Ear Plugs”

Passed my Class 2A License Test!

3 practical lessons, 3 weeks, $300, and I finally got my Class 2A driving license!

For those who are unfamiliar with the Singapore tiered driving license scheme for motorcycles, (regardless of age and driving experience,) motorcycle learners start off with a Class 2B license which limits the rider on a motorcycle with engine below 200cc. You’ll need to wait ONE YEAR before you can register for lessons for the next tier. Passing the next tier, Class 2A, will allow you to ride a motorcycle of up to 400cc engine capacity. Again, you need to wait for another ONE YEAR before you can register for lessons for the next tier – the coveted Class 2 unlimited cc license.

The 100-minute Class 2A theory lesson in BBDC.

Overall course structure for Class 2A comprise of Continue reading “Passed my Class 2A License Test!”

It’s time to say goodbye…

It’s time to say goodbye….

You’ve been with me for a year, and we sure have traveled serious distances together. I’ve brought you to multiple Malaysia trips. We’ve even went on a tour to Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia. We went through thick and thin together – through good weather, and some really bad ones; on good roads, and some horrible ones. I will always cherish the times we spent on these trips.

Bye bye…

But now, it’s time for me to bid you goodbye…. Continue reading “It’s time to say goodbye…”

sgBikerBoy travels around Malaysia

I’m going on a motorcycle tour (again)! Not gonna do anything too crazy like the last tour. This time, I plan to just circle Peninsular Malaysia. You see, I’m heading up to KL tomorrow to attend an ex-classmate’s wedding dinner. Again, it’s one of those “since I’m already here, why don’t I just head to….” kind of idea. Don’t plan to be away for too long – probably just for a couple of days. But then again…. who knows? =P

The planned route.

Quite honestly, I’ve only come up with Continue reading “sgBikerBoy travels around Malaysia”

My Early Christmas Present – Kabuto Ibuki Flip-up Helmet

The Kabuto Ibuki replaces my Lazer Corsica Z-Line! Early Christmas gift to self – I got me a modular flip-up helmet! I have previously ranted about my deteriorating Lazer Corsica Z-Line helmet, and would really have loved to stick to it, but I needed some parts replaced. I reached out to Lazer’s customer service more than a month ago and I must say that I have been rather disappointed with their responses so far – but I’ll save that rant for another post.

The Kabuto (formerly OGK) Ibuki Flip-up Helmet

Personally, my riding style is commuting / touring. Without going into the merits of open-faced vs full-faced helmets, my personal preference has always been with modular helmets as it seem to offer a little bit of the benefits of both worlds. Having come from Lazer’s convertible modular, I’ve been looking for a flip-up helmet for awhile now. Continue reading “My Early Christmas Present – Kabuto Ibuki Flip-up Helmet”

THANK YOU fellow biker FD8352!!

Oh silly me.

As I was preparing to leave home this morning, my bike refused to start. Turns out that I left my key in the ignition and inadvertently left it in the ON position. It didn’t occur to me that the bike was powered as I had the engine kill switch in the OFF position.
I whipped out my multimeter and measured the battery voltage – 4.67V??!? Wow! My 5V-USB-powered onboard bike cam must have zapped all its juice, and finally died when the battery went below 5V.

Oh great! 🙁 Just when I was about to start riding. I tried to connect my (old) spare motorcycle battery – which was reading 11.5V – parallel to it. Cranked… No joy.

Next, I pushed my bike to where my car was parked and connected a set of jumper cables (I always carry jumper cables in my car). Cranked… Still no joy.

Then, I tried a Continue reading “THANK YOU fellow biker FD8352!!”
