Sunday morning ride to Sungai Rengit

Another Sunday morning ride! This time, we headed to Sg Rengit – near Desaru. Thankfully, the weather was beautiful! As usual, we rendezvous 7am at B-Point, JB, for a light breakfast before the ride.

There were supposed to be 4 bikes this morning. But at 6:30am, I got the following message:

“Sorry bro, cannot join you this morning.”

Okay, 1 down – 3 to go.

And then, as we were about to finish our roti prata breakfast, another message came in at 0720h:

“Broz, just woke up. Sorry”

-_-

So it was just 2 of us left…

Leaving B-Point after breakfast.

Sunday morning ride to Kota Tinggi

3 crazy guys with 3 motorcycles of 3 license classes decided to do a wet Sunday morning ride. My Pulsar 200NS was joined by a Honda CB400X and a Yamaha XJ6 Diversion and we rendezvous 7am at B-Point, Johor Bahru for a quick roti and teh (tea) breakfast before we made our way towards the Kota Tinggi waterfall resort.

Our goal wasn’t the destination. It was the ride. And despite waking up to a raining sky before the sun was out, the only person who backed out was a planned pillion.

Sunday Morning Ride to Tg Piai (Again!)

Yet another sgBikerBoy Sunday Morning Ride! Running out of ideas for nearby places to ride to, we decided to head to Tanjung Piai again. Anyway, it’s been almost a year since I last rode there. But for my riding buddy, Siu Hon, this was a first experience for him. Anyway, like they say, it’s not about the destination, but it’s all about the ride.

So, my 200cc Pulsar and Siu Hon’s recently acquired 600cc Yamaha XJ6 Diversion met at B-Point, Johor Bahru. We settled for a quick breakfast before setting off. In the previous ride there, I used Waze to guide me. Waze seem to suggest a more conservative route – sticking to the main roads, heading to Pontian before turning south towards Kukup and Tg Piai. For this ride, we decided to use Google Maps instead. Google Maps seem to suggest a shorter (faster?) route that will take us through some really minor roads. Hey! We’re on motorcycles! After all, what can be more fun than taking the small roads right?

Sun Morning Ride to Kampong Lor Buangkok

Kampong Lorong Buangkok – probably the last surviving kampong in Singapore. Kampong (or ‘kampung’) literally translates to ‘village’ from the Malay language, and is typically used to describe a laid back, rural, Malay-style village where single-story buildings with zinc or attap-leaf roof dwellings reside. Roads in a kampong are typically minimally developed or undeveloped.

Sun Morning Ride to Bukit Brown

It was an impromptu ride. I woke up at 5:30am this morning, and after reading the morning papers, I got bored at home and decided to go for a morning ride. As I was aimlessly wandering around Singapore, and idea struck me – Bukit Brown!

Bukit Brown is a cemetery site that has caused some controversies some years back when the government of Singapore announced plans to build a a road through some part of the grave site, resulting in the necessitating of the destruction and exhumation of some 5,000 graves. Nevertheless, the public debate on the site seem to have simmered. But I’ve never had the opportunity to visit the place. Until today.

The location of Bukit Brown Cemetery seem to lie at the intersection between the two lines joining the tips of Singapore.

Sun Morning Ride to Pengerang

Completed another Sunday morning ride! This time, we went to Pengerang – the south-eastern most tip of Peninsular Malaysia. If you’ve read my earlier post, we went to Tg Piai a couple of weeks ago. That’s the south-western most tip of Peninsular Malaysia – and also the southern-most tip too.

Anyway, Pengerang is an approximately 2 hour ride, and is known for it’s cheap seafood. Or at least cheap by Singapore standards. But it was definitely too early for seafood, and we were there for the ride. Honestly, I didn’t quite know what to expect. It wasn’t an “exciting destination” per se – especially just after last Sunday’s ride to Gunung Pulai waterfall. But we were just looking for an excuse to ride. But boy, oh boy…..

A route with TWISTIES!!

Sunday Morning Ride to Gunung Pulai Waterfall

It’s Sunday again! And it’s Sunday Morning Ride Day again! This time, we headed to Mount Pulai – or locally known as Gunung Pulai. Only approximately 55km from Singapore, Gunung Pulai is the lesser known waterfall compared to Kota Tinggi. Many Singaporeans who have been to Kota Tinggi may not even have heard of Gunung Pulai.

My Top Box was Molested

I’m feeling mad… I’m feeling violated. I had my top box molested this morning as I was making payment for petrol in Shell Johor Bahru (JB) this morning. Yes, it was my fault for keeping it unlocked (I thought that it was locked). The crook came up behind me on a kup and pretended to wait in queue for the petrol pump. He struck when I walked over to the counter to make payment – opening up my topbox to search for any content worth stealing.

Ride to Tanjung Piai

IMG_6055 copyYeah! Yet another weekend ride trip! Tanjung Piai – the “southernmost tip of Mainland Asia”. I was expecting the ride to take about 2 hours (1:40mins when I last “researched” it on Waze), but it took merely just over an hour from the Checkpoint to Tanjung Piai National Park. This time, I was in a group of 3 bikes. None of us have ever been there, and so this is an adventure of all 3 of us. Continue reading “Ride to Tanjung Piai”
